Mary Hegarty discusses her Research on Hurricane Visualizations

Mary joined online with climate journalist Andy Revkin and climate scientists Adam Sobel and Rebecca Morss in a live discussion.

Mary participated in a live discussion of the challenges preparing communities for a tropical storm strike when complicated weather dynamics create a wide zone of risk.

The case in point is Henri, a storm poised to gain hurricane strength before making landfall somewhere from Long Island to southern New England. Keep track via the National Hurricane Center: http://nhc.noaa.gov.

The other challenge is disaster amnesia. New England hasn’t had a hurricane hit since 1991.

Longtime climate journalist Andy Revkin of the Columbia Climate School joined with Adam Sobel, a Columbia Climate School professor focused on extreme-weather and tropical cyclone dynamics in a changing climate. Sobel is also author of "Storm Surge: Hurricane Sandy, Our Warming Planet, and the Extreme Weather of the Past and Future."
