Lexie Topete recently received an NIH Transition to Aging Research F99/K00 award, which will fund her last year of graduate school and up to 4 years of postdoctoral work!
Her project, entitled "Elucidating the Influence of Ovarian Aging and Endocrine Shifts on Spatial Navigation, as an Early Diagnostic Target for Alzheimer's Disease" was recently funded through the National Institute of Aging (NIA). This prestigious award funds late-stage students through their last 1-2 years of PhD, and up to 4 years of postdoctoral work in aging research.
Lexie's graduate-level, F99 work will focus on examining ovarian hormones and spatial abilities in young women, both at the short-term (across different menstrual cycle phases) and long-term (examining impacts of ovarian hormone suppression) levels. She will use this work as a basis to transition into her K00 postdoctoral work, where she will examine spatial abilities in midlife women in different menopausal stages (pre-, peri-, and post-), incorporating neuroendocrine methods and biomarkers of Alzheimer's Disease (tau).
Congrats Lexie!
